Who I am
bethlaprof.com is run by me, Beth, a French and Spanish tutor for adult learners. I am responsible for any personal information you share with me through this website, by email or during lessons.
I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and am aware of my responsibilities under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.
Confidentiality
Any information you give me, either verbally or in writing, will be treated as confidential.
What information I collect
I only collect information that I need to provide your lessons. This includes your name, email address, phone number, the language you are learning (French or Spanish), your current level and your learning goals. I will only store information that is required for your lessons to go ahead. If you have any questions about why specific information is required, please contact me for clarification.
When you fill in a form on my website (for example, to book a trial lesson, request a free resource or join my mailing list), I collect your name, email address and any details you choose to give me, such as your level or the language you are interested in. I use this to reply to you, send you what you asked for and, if you agreed, to tell you about my lessons and courses. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Why I use your information
To provide lessons (name, contact details, level and goals): this is needed to carry out our agreement.
To send you free resources and news about my lessons and courses: I do this only if you have agreed, and you can withdraw that at any time.
To keep basic records, such as invoices and lesson notes: this is a legitimate interest in running my tutoring business properly.
Where your information is stored, and who handles it
Your information is stored digitally on my computer and in the online services listed below. I do not keep paper records.
These services store or process your information on my behalf:
•TutorBird
•GoModern (my contacts and emails)
•Zoom
•Google (Gmail and Google Sheets)
I do not sell your information or share it with anyone else for their own use.
How long I keep your information
Information will be stored for as long as you are taking lessons with me, unless otherwise specified. It will be deleted once it is no longer required, usually within one year of your last lesson. I may need to keep invoices for longer to meet tax requirements.
If you signed up through my website but did not become a student, I will delete your details after 12 months if you haven't opened or replied to my emails.
Who I share information with
I will not discuss your information or your progress with anyone else unless you have given me permission, for example if your employer is paying for your lessons and you would like me to report back to them. You can withdraw that permission at any time.
I may share information if I am required to by law.
